Meet Debby

In Her Shoes is back, and we're SO excited to feature our longtime supporters, CS connoisseurs and above all, friends, to see how they bring our shoes to life. Each month, we'll feature a new CS Bestie and take notes on their style philosophy to share with y'all. We hope you're as obsessed as we are with these incredible folks, bc without all of you, our shoes would just be shoes.

This month, artist, style icon & long time CS lover Debby ( @mindfulnice_com) is telling us a bit about herself and showing us all the ways she makes Charlotte Stone Shoes her own ✨

First off, who are you and what are you about?

Hi! I’m Debby! I’m a mother of 3, a psychologist, mindfulness educator, and licensed artist. As the proud owner of Mindfulnice, I dedicate my efforts to crafting products and artwork that inspire others to live a mindfully nice life. My products, including my bestselling Mindful Minute Activity Cards and Pick-Me-Up affirmation cards, can be found in hundreds of retail shops across the USA and also internationally. My business was born from my desire to help people facing life's challenges. Recognizing that everyone grapples with some form of silent struggle, I aim to break the isolation by fostering connections through kindness. The foundation of my business is built on the simple principle of being nice to everyone, coupled with the creation of products that contribute to the mental well-being of individuals and bring happiness into their lives. My ultimate goal is for people to feel seen and understood through the meaningful impact of the products and pattern designs that I create.

Which of our shoes do you currently own?

Oh, I own lots & lots of Charlotte Stone shoes. They’re the only shoes I wear! Currently, I own Loma, Jona, Penny, Darby, Conner, Perris, Donna, Dolly, Juliette, and…5 pairs of Conways! (my favorite!) and 2 pairs of Tootie (my other favorite!)

How did you find out about Charlotte Stone?

I found out about Charlotte Stone from an instagram ad showcasing the Conway sneakers and it was love at first sight. Initially, I bought them as a gift for my teenage daughter, considering our shared shoe size and the occasional borrowing potential. But, I couldn't resist trying them on when they arrived. I loved them even more in person and I ordered another pair immediately for myself! As someone who has struggled with foot pain, I was pleasantly surprised that the Conway sneaker is the first pair of shoes I could wear completely pain-free. That marked the beginning of my expanding collection of Charlotte Stone shoes. They've become my exclusive go-to footwear!

How does your style align with your personality?

My style very much aligns with my personality, which is vibrant, laid-back, and nostalgic. It blends my love for creativity with my carefree spirit.

On an average day, you’ll find me in:

Jeans, a colorful & comfortable top, and usually either my Conways or Tootie sneakers.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me:

My work is to create art, but when I’m not working you’ll still find me creating art & thinking about new product ideas. It’s what I love to do. But, you’ll also find me spending time with my children and staying active through exercise. It’s a perfect blend of creativity, family, and well-being.

Who or what inspires or influences your style?

My style is influenced in part by my daughter, who embodies openness to new ideas and authentic self-expression. She has a vibrant spirit that encourages me to embrace my creativity and individuality. I hope I do the same for her (and for my sons, too!).

Do you have a style icon? Why are they your style icon?

I really don’t have one style icon. I find style inspiration from many different sources. I love to explore beauty and fun in all kinds of styles and eras. But, I’m ultimately always drawn to the colors and styles that make me happy and that I feel good, comfortable, and authentically myself in.

What are you watching or reading or hobbying right now?

I don’t watch a lot of tv, but when I do, I gravitate towards light, funny shows that bring laughter into my downtime. You’ll likely catch me with reruns of The Office, Seinfeld, and Arrested Development playing in the background at any given time. I’m currently reading Still Life With Woodpecker, but I often pick up The Four Agreements to remind myself of the principles that lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. I’m currently working on hand-embroidering an oversized vintage field of wildflowers tapestry that will eventually hang on my wall. I’m also working on a 1970s original latch hook pattern, and a cross stitch design that I created.

What three things could you not live without?

I can’t imagine my life without my mindfulness practice which keeps me centered, grounded, and happy. I also could not live without the meaningful connections I make with other people. And, of course I need lots of fun art supplies (I could live without those, but I certainly don’t want to!).

What article of clothing are you living in right now?

Currently, I’m living in my favorite pair of jeans paired with a casual, stylish top that captures my aesthetic. To complete the look, I choose the perfect pair of Charlotte Stone shoes from my ever growing collection, which adds the perfect blend of comfort and flair to my everyday style.

Describe your style in three words.
colorful, casual boho, & all-things retro
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about fostering mindfulness, prioritizing well-being, and extending help and support for others.

What “traditional” styling rule do you love to break?

I love breaking the traditional styling rule that everything must match. I prefer the freedom to mix and match colors & patterns, allowing my outfits to reflect my personality without the constraints of perfect coordination. That’s one reason I love Charlotte Stone shoes!. It’s so much fun to wear 2 differently colored shoes and style them with a fun outfit! It makes me feel very happy

What is one weird fashion trend from your youth that you kind of wish came back?

I (not-so-secretly) wish that the eclectic charm of windbreakers & parachute pants from the ‘80s would make a comeback…preferably in neon-colors! I also wouldn’t mind if big hair and banana clips made a comeback, too!

What is one thing about yourself people might be surprised to find out?

One thing about myself that might surprise people is my dedication to volunteering. I actively contribute my time to the Vision For Tomorrow Foundation, where I work towards making a positive impact on the lives of individuals (like my son) who are living with low vision and blindness.
