Lollapa-shoe-za

#Lollapashoeza / 2021

A lollapalooza is a person or thing that is particularly impressive or attractive. So what happens when said impressive or attractive person is wearing a pair of our shoes? Introducing Lollapa-shoe-za, our brand-new, soon-to-be recurring feature where we shine a spotlight on the super impressive, attractive, and all-around awe-inspiring people doing super cool things in Charlotte Stone Shoes. First up, Julia Cost, a textile designer who had an unexpected connection to our vintage deadstock materials.

If you didn't already know, all fifteen of the vintage prints we used in our Vintage Deadstock Capsule were extremely rare finds. But what might be even rarer is how we connected with Julia Cost through of one of those fabrics.

Julia, a painter & textile designer born, raised, and living in Maui, found us after fellow textile designer, friend of the brand, and CS ColorMuse™, Katie Kortman, posted a pic of her new Norma Darcys on IG.

Julia flipped when she saw them. Not only because the shoes are cute, but because the yellow 80s paintbrush print we used was an almost exact match for a fabric she had as a child.

Back in 1992, her mom purchased the exact paintbrush print but in red at a Woolworth on Maui. She sewed up matching outfits for Julia and her baby brother which Julia still has to this day. Earlier this year, before we'd even spoken, Julia included some of the leftover paintbrush print in a gorgeous quilt she sewed together. And if all that wasn't bananas enough, she still had scrap pieces of the fabric leftover. 🤯

So after we had a back-and-forth freak-out sesh about how cool and unusual this meet-cute was, we got to work. We sent over a pair of Norma Jias and Darcys, and Julia sewed together the coolest dress to match.

And full disclosure, we may or may not have cried when we saw how it all turned out. Keep scrolling to see the *lollapashoeza* for yourself.

"My mom bought the fabric because my dad is an artist, and now my brother and I are artists, too!"

"I used strips of my own fabric too (the flowers) and the little girl and a red balloon is my painting. It’s perfect to use this with the paint brushes fabric that helped inspire me to be a painter even back when I was 5!"

"My mom remembers seeing the yellow background as an option! Who would have thought it would eventually be used in crazy cool shoes?!"
